A 25-year-old Nigerian father has been arrested for stoning his two children to death , authorities said.

The suspect, Elisha Tari and resident of Himikidu, was apprehended on Aug. 18, for the alleged murder of his children, 3 and 5 years respectively.

Tari was said to have killed the children with stones and sticks which he had used to hit them on their heads repeatedly.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect and the victims’ mother separated two months ago after they had a misunderstanding.

The shocking incident came to light after the victims’ grandfather reported the murder at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Michika.

Tari was arrested while trying to flee to Cameroon, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the spokesperson for the Adamawa Police Command, said in a statement.

The motive behind the heinous crime remains unclear and the investigators were questioning the suspect to ascertain the exact circumstances that forced him to murder his children.

A further investigation is underway, authorities said.

A similar incident was reported earlier this month when a Nigerian woman, who is said to be mentally ill, was arrested for allegedly stoning a young man to death when he tried to save her life by pulling her off a busy road at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

According to an eyewitness, on Aug. 1, the young victim was passing by Nkrumah Interchange on his motorcycle when he noticed the woman standing in the middle of the busy road and pelting stones at speeding vehicles.

The rider stopped his vehicle and approached the woman, asking her to get off the flyover. The man was going to stop her from causing an accident, the eyewitness said.

Footage of the gory scene, showed the woman repeatedly smashing the young man's head with what appeared to be a cement block, while he lay unresponsive on the ground.

Officers who responded to the horrific scene after receiving a distress call, found the victim, 25-year-old Kwabena Amoani lying in a pool of blood. The left side of his face and skull was seriously injured, authorities said.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The mentally ill woman was arrested at the scene. It was reported that cops had to pacify an angry mob to stop them from lynching the woman before the arrest.
