A Louisiana businessman was shot dead by a teenager who snuck into his home to see his minor daughter.
34-year-old Dezmon Hamilton, died Sunday, July 18, after he was shot by 17-year-old Nicholas Mcquirter, who entered a second-story window of a home on Hayfield Drive in the Meadow View subdivision of Zachary, to visit the victim’s 14-year-old daughter.
Hamilton was alerted about the teen after a neighbor spotted the suspect climbing through a window using a ladder.
The father confronted the boy and got into a heated argument. At some point during the encounter, both men pulled out their guns and began shooting at each other.
Police officers responded to the home after they were alerted about the shooting.
Hamilton suffered multiple gunshot injuries and was declared dead at the scene. The teen also suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. He has been hospitalized since Sunday.
It's still unclear who fired the first shot, Police Chief David McDavid said.
The teen will be arrested when he is released from the hospital. He will be charged for second-degree murder, as well as the illegal use of a weapon and illegal possession of a stolen firearm.
Hamilton was an entrepreneur and operated several businesses in the area.
"One of the clients of our design business, Dezmon Hamilton, was murdered Sunday morning. We designed the layout of a snowball stand and car wash he was building in Zachary. We spoke often, and I had met with him several times for the meetings downtown," Hamilton's acquaintance, Carl Gibson tweeted.
In a similar but unrelated incident, an angry father allegedly shot and killed four family members of a young man who was having an affair with the suspect’s minor daughter. The shocking incident took place on July 4, in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab, India.
The accused, identified as Sukhjinder Singh, got enraged when he learned that his minor daughter was having an affair with 20-year-old Harmandeep Singh.
"He picked up his revolver and drove off on his motorcycle, probably in search of the boy. He found the boy and six other members of his family working in the fields at around 5.45 am and opened fire. They were completely taken by surprise," the Batala Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Rashpal Singh, said.
While two of them died on the spot, two died when being transported to a nearby hospital.
