Football stars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo surprised fans with their latest joint campaign.
On the eve of the beginning of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, an image featuring the two was shared by both the footballers through their social media accounts.
The image was taken as part of a partnership with Louis Vuitton, a name that's on top when it comes to fashion. They were seen playing chess on a Louis Vuitton briefcase. They captioned it, "Victory is a State of Mind. A long tradition of crafting trunks photographed by @annieleibovitz for @louisvuitton."
In the image, Messi was seen holding one hand on his chin as he mulled over his next move while playing chess. He looked chic in a grey round-neck jumper. The sleeves were pushed up that helped to show off his tattoos, reported Asianet Newsable. On the other hand, five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo, wearing a blue turtleneck jumper, was seen keeping a close eye on the action.
After the image was posted on social media on Saturday, some fans called it "iconic" while others termed it as the "picture of the century," The News Minute reported.
The briefcase that featured in the image was part of the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The trophy was presented in it for the opening fixture and final, Sport Bible reported.
The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 started on Sunday and will be played till Dec. 18, and this is quite possibly their last chance to win the World Cup as the two players are already in their 30s. Many believe that everything points towards a showdown between the two legends of football in an Argentina-Portugal final in this year's World Cup.
During his recent interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo talked about his relationship with Messi. He had nothing, but positive things to say about the his rival. He said that they have shared the stage for 16 years so, they have a "great relationship." Ronaldo noted that he is not a friend of Messi in terms of, "what I mean friend is the guy who was with you in your house, speaking on the phone, no, but it's like a teammate."
He shared that Messi is a guy whom he really respects the way "he always speak about me." He noted that their better halves always have respect for each other, and that "they are from Argentina." He said that Messi, a seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, is a "great guy who does great things for football.”
