Facebook, the world's most popular social-networking service, will purchase Mobile Technologies, the company that developed the speech translation app, "Jibbigo." The Pittsburgh-based company will certainly allow users to connect across language barriers. Tech Crunch considers all that Facebook could accomplish with voice recognition, "from voice search to translated News Feed posts, Facebook could to a lot with this technology."

Facebook could further their mission for making the world more connected by adding in a voice recognition application. Facebook could possibly power cross-language chat, voice translation for traveling Facebook users, or help it take News Feed posts written in one language and display them in another.

Tom Stocky, a product-management director at Facebook, revealed that voice recognition technology will prove to be vital for people to navigate the Internet and social media. Although more than a billion people around the world already use Facebook every month, we are always looking for ways to help connect the rest of the world as well," Stocky wrote. "This acquisition is an investment in our long-term product road map as we continue toward our company's mission."

The terms of Facebook's acquisition of Mobile Technologies were undisclosed, however Facebook told Tech Crunch some details about the two companies working together for the future. "Members of the MT team will join our engineering teams here in Menlo Park." Facebook refused to specify exactly how many people were joining it from Mobile Technologies which was founded in 2001, as a speech-to-speech translator application for phones, according to the company's website.
