Evita Muñoz "Chachita" was hospitalized after she contracted pneumonia. The Mexican legendary actress is in the intensive care unit of a private hospital in the City of México. According to El Universal, the 79-year-old personality was hospitalized since Sunday due to pneumonia. Lourdes Pellegrino, secretary of the ANDA actors association, said Muñoz called her to ask for an ambulance because she was felling ill. It was also reported that although she is grave, her health is stable and will remain in the facilities until further notice.
Muñoz is an icon in Mexican cinema and starred in films during the golden age. She is known as "Chachita," a nickname she received after starring in the 1941 film titled "¡Ay Jalisco, No Te Rajes!" opposite Jorge Negrete. In the movie, she was called "Chachita" which is short for "muchachita," a young girl. She went on to star in movies with Pedro Infante in "Nosotros Los Pobres" (1948), "Ustedes Los Ricos" (1948) and "Pepe El Toro" (1952).
"Chachita" is a great impersonator, imitating great singers like Celia Cruz, Olga Guillot and Mona Bell. In the U.S., she appeared in the series "Columbo" with Peter Falk and "I Spy" with Robert Culp. Muñoz made in career from appearing in comedy like the film "Hermelinda Linda" and shows like "Chespirito," "Dos Mujeres En Mi Casa" and "Nosotros Los Gomez."
Muñoz also starred in televisas like "Gutierritos" (1958) opposite Rafael Banquells and "Mundo De Juguete" (1974) with the young Graciela Mauri. Other titles in which she appeared in were "Corona De Lágrimas" (1964), "El Amor Tiene Cara De Mujer" (1971), "Angeles Sin Paraíso" (1992), "Bendita Mentira" (1996) and "Gotita De Amor" (1998). Other melodramas in which "Chachita" was part of the cast were "Serafín" (1999), "Contra Viento y Marea" (2005) and "Cuidado Con El Angel" (2008). Her last appearance on the small screen was in "Que Bonito Amor" (2012).
