Evangelina Elizondo has passed away at the age of 88. The legendary actress was confirmed dead by the actors guild in Mexico, ANDI. "The directorial board on behalf of ANDI feel the loss of Evangelina Elizondo," they wrote in a tweet. Elizondo is credited as the voiceover in Spanish for "Cinderella." She also starred in telenovelas like "Cuando Seas Mía" and "El Abuelo y Yo" alongside kid actores Gael García Bernal and Ludwika Paleta. Evangelina was more famously known as "Mamá Lena" on "Mirada de Mujer," who was María Inés' critical mother.
Evangelina Elizondo was born on April 29, 1929 in Mexico City. Her prolific career dates back to the Golden Age of Cinema, with her first film along the legendary Germán Valdés in 1951 with "Las Locuras de Tin-Tan." After that she went on to take part in titles like "Frontera Norte" (1953), "Educando a Papá" (1954), "Pueblo de Proscritos" (1955) and "Los Platillos Voladores" (1955). Elizondo also worked in Hollywood alongside Keany Reeves in "A Walk In The Clouds" (1995). Her last film role was on "Me Late Chocolate" in 2013 alongisde Karla Souza and Osvaldo Benavides.
On television she worked in telenovelas like "Frontera" (1967), "El Pecado de Oyuki" (1988), "El Abuelo y Yo" (1992), "Mirada de Mujer" (1997), "Tres Veces Sofía" (1998), "Cuando Seas Mía" (2001), "Mirada de Mujer: El Regreso" (2003) and "La Heredera" (2004). Her last television appearance was in "Pasión Morena" in 2009 in the role of Doña Josefina where she shared credits with Victor González and Paola Núñez.
Evangelina Elizondo was involved in controversy during her last years. She held a position at the actors guild ANDA but was fired in 2012. Elizondo backfired and took them to court and won. She also had a suit against Silvia Pinal, Yolanda Ciani and Andrea Coto for moral damages.
