Last April 17, Eva Mendes’s older brother, Juan Carlos Mendes, died at the age of 53 after a long battle with cancer. The sad news broke two weeks ago when another one of the actress’s brother, Carlos Mendez, posted a photo of a GoFundMe page, asking for support for his late brother’s two children, Mia and Matt.
A week later, Carlos posted a photo of him and his late brother captioned: “With absolute pain and sadness in my heart this is the hardest thing I've ever had to go through in my life and as I'm writing this I'm still in disbelief. My brother has passed away peacefully this morning. I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for those who have prayed and have kept my brother in your thoughts and who wished him to get better. He fought with all his might and power and gave cancer one hell of a fight. He leaves behind behind a 13 year old and a 5 year old. I love you my brother may god bless you and I'll see you once again.”
The actress, who is known for being incredibly private, only posted a black and white photo of her and her 53-year-old captioned with a heart emoji.
However, Mendez did share a photo of a younger Juan Carlos a few months ago wishing him all the best in his battle against the disease. “My brother Juan Carlos. Sending him so much love today as he continues his battle with cancer. I love you big brother,” she wrote.
The tragic news comes in the middle of Eva’s reported second pregnancy with partner Ryan Gosling. While the couple has yet to confirm the rumor, photos of Mendes covering her belly with a big bag, did surface a few weeks ago. If reports are true, the pair’s second child should be here any time during the summer.
