Eugenio Derbez was a force that took 2013 by storm. This Mexican actor, producer and director made international headlines with his hit film “Instructions Not Included,” which he starred and directed. The film opened a lot of doors for him in the United States thanks to its enormous success, and now, Derbez is being presented with many opportunities in the Anglo market that he’s willing to take and explore. That’s why he’s making a permanent move to Los Angeles, ending his long-term relationship with Televisa.

However, Derbez stressed that they ended in good terms. “Televisa is my company but we’re on a break right now while I go explore new things in the United States,” he said. The move is also the reason why he couldn’t follow through with another season of his TV show “La Familia P.Luche.” “They didn’t get mad, they understood it,” Derbez added. “They wanted another season before I left, but I couldn’t because the ‘gringos’ are demanding that I go work there and I have to take this opportunity,” the actor insisted.

“I have offers as an actor, others as a director which surprises me a lot because no one had ever asked me to direct only, and I have offers to both act and direct. I have to be very careful which one I choose.” Derbez added that whatever he chooses is going to define his career from now on, that’s why he’s being extremely cautious. However, he hinted that he is leaning towards directing.

I like directing more, because when an agency calls you to tell you that an American studio is looking for you to direct, it feels great and it’s such a big responsibility, but it’s a challenge that I would like to take on.” We wish Eugenio Derbez the best of lucks and hope his talent is put to good use!
