A Mississippi inmate is back in custody after a botched escape attempt, and has a new fellow prisoner.
Ryan Burks, 39, was serving a 30-year sentence for sexual battery and burglary when he made his escape on Wednesday, triggering the correctional facility to enter lockdown. Authorities soon discovered kitchen employee, Leslie Nichole McNeal, 44, to be missing as well, according to WJTV.
An investigation found the two left prison grounds in a car together. Later, police spotted the vehicle in Lafayette County. When law enforcement attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver refused.
The pursuit culminated in a wreck where both occupants were detained by authorities.
McNeal was taken to a local hospital for treatment. She's now being held at Lafayette County Jail, charged with felony aiding and abetting, the outlet reported.
Burks was charged with felony fleeing in a motor vehicle and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Oxford police turned Burks over to Carrol County Sheriff's Office where he was then transferred to the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
