Spanish artist Enrique Iglesias surprised the audience gathered in Madrid at the LOS40 Music Awards Santander 2024 to see him receive the Global Icon award by talking about his colleague Rosalía and his life as a father.
One of the most important Spanish-language radio networks recognized Enrique as a global star, celebrating him as an international figure who has had a lasting impact. His appearance in Spain after a three-year absence left the audience with some memorable remarks.
"It's an honor to be here at the LOS40 Music Awards. Time flies, and I can't believe I'm holding this award. I want to thank my record label, my team who puts up with me all year, and my fans. Without you, I wouldn't be here tonight. I'd like to dedicate this award to Valencia and all the communities affected by the DANA weather phenomenon. We need to keep supporting them," said the singer of 'El Perdedor.'
He also praised Rosalía's performance of his song 'Hero' during her 'Motomami Tour,' which he said moved him deeply.
"Every time I hear Rosalía sing I get goosebumps. It's a pleasure and an honor to hear her perform a song I wrote when I was 19 or 20. I hold that song very close to my heart," added Enrique, the son of legendary singer Julio Iglesias.
He also won Best Collaboration in the Global Latin category for his duet with María Becerra on 'Así Es La Vida,' from 'Final Vol. 2.'
Enrique's career, nearly 30 years strong, will be marked by the release of a 'Greatest Hits' collection in 2025, celebrating his pioneering role in Latin music and worldwide sales of 180 million albums across 11 records.
Although he previously hinted at continuing his music career despite naming his last two albums 'Final Vol.1' and 'Final Vol. 2,' Enrique clarified he will keep releasing music "but not in the traditional way," opting for singles rather than full albums.
Daddy Enrique
The artist also surprised fans by openly discussing his role as a father to his children with Anna Kournikova, emphasizing his commitment to spending quality time with them as they grow.
"I'm in relax mode, at home with the kids, enjoying taking them to school, watching them grow... I have six-year-old twins and a four-year-old daughter, and they grow so fast. I want to savor these moments. In 24 hours, they're already bigger," he said from his home in Miami.
Yet, he reassured fans to expect more music in the coming years.
"This is the last album I'll release for now (referring to 'Final Vol. 2'). For an album, I usually write 100 songs and pick my favorites, but now I want to write and maybe release one or two singles, not necessarily an album. I'll keep going, but without pressure," he added.
The important thing is that Enrique Iglesias isn't going anywhere soon—fans can look forward to more hits from the Spanish icon.
