An NYDP officer suffered grievous wounds after being attacked by an emotionally disturbed young woman at her residence on Wednesday.
Marielee Jiminez, 29, summoned cops at around 4 p.m. to her Sunset Park address on Sixth Avenue near 53rd street. Upon their arrival, Jiminez turned aggressive and allegedly swung a serrated steak knife at one of the cops. It is believed that the officers, who were at the scene, reportedly dropped by to take the suspect to a hospital, before an untoward series of events ensued.
Video footage that captured the incident, and was shared by a media outlet. She currently faces multiple charges with assault on a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing and resisting arrest. The injured officer is currently recuperating, after having suffered a laceration on his neck.
While further investigation is underway, reliable sources reveal that Jiminez has a history of causing menace. There has been no information about whether the suspect has an attorney.
There has been an uptick in the cases registered, pertaining to a certain degree of violence being inflicted upon police officers in Brooklyn. In another harrowing episode, an NYPD officer endured a fracture on his knee while trying to nab a shoplifter at a Target outlet in the Bronx. Just as the cop tried to arrest the suspect who was fleeing the scene, a scuffle ensued that resulted in the officer being shoved to the ground and getting his knee fractured.
The miscreant reportedly dropped the stolen items – a coffee maker and air fryer – at one point, and scooted off to another building on Exterior Street, part of NYCHA’s Marble Hill Houses. The officer was rushed to a nearby hospital and treated for his injuries. The police are on the prowl for the shoplifter, who’s described as a 40-year-old lean and bald man who was about 5 foot 9 inches.
