Elon Musk made an appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) where said he wants to "have a good time" amid the ongoing layoffs of federal employees.
The event took place on February 20 in Washington D.C. where Musk brandished a chainsaw, a gift from Argentina's President Javier Melei, before sitting down for an interview. The Tesla CEO gave fellow conservatives an update on how the Department of Government Efficiency was doing in slashing the budget.
"So, we are trying to get good things done. Ultimately have a good time doing it and have a sense of humor," he told the crowd.
Musk then slammed Democrats by saying that they wanted to "make comedy illegal" before he incited that comedy be legalized.

His comments come as DOGE has been working to cut the federal workforce by 10 percent since President Donald Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20. Trump issued an executive order that instructed heads of government offices to no more than one employee for every four employees that were either let go or quit out of their own volition, The Hill reports.
Trump and Musk, along with DOGE, created a buyout program for federal workers where they would be paid and have benefits until October. As of reporting, 77,000 employees have taken that offer.
However, the program has not come without criticism as one employee, Nicholas Detter, shared that he had been fired despite accepting the buyout before the deadline had come and gone. The Hill reports that there was no reason given for his firing, only a notice that he was no longer employed with the Department of Agriculture.
Additionally, officials have begun firing recently hired federal employees, who are on probationary periods for typically one year. There are currently about 200,000 federal employees on probationary periods, according to AP.
To date, the Department of Veterans Affairs has fired 1,000 workers and between 1,000 and 1,200 NIH employees were notified that they were not to return to work. More than 6,000 employees were also terminated by the IRS during America's tax season. According to USA Today, DOGE has claimed that it has saved the country more than $55 billion.
