Elon Musk Cries Laughing at His 'Department of Government Efficiency' Being a Real Thing: 'I Still Can't Believe'

Elon Musk "still can't believe" his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a Donald Trump administration initiative he has been tapped to lead, is real.

In an attempt to streamline government operations, President-elect Donald Trump announced the formation of the DOGE earlier this month, appointing tech billionaire Elon Musk and venture capitalist Vivek Ramaswamy to spearhead the initiative.

The department, operating as an external advisory board, is tasked with recommending deep cuts to federal spending, eliminating inefficiencies, and reshaping government agencies. This aligns with Trump's broader pledge to dismantle bureaucracy and cut down on unnecessary expenditures in his second term.

On November 24, Musk shared his reaction on X to leading DOGE, stating, "I still can't believe @DOGE is real," with several crying laughing emojis. He followed the post up, saying "But I think it's actually going to work."

DOGE, which collaborates with a House subcommittee led by Marjorie Taylor Greene, will focus on identifying wasteful spending and providing transparency to the public. Musk and Ramaswamy have outlined goals, including reducing federal spending by at least $500 billion annually.

The department will work closely with Congress and other advisory panels to implement proposed cuts and streamline operations. If approved, these measures are expected to result in temporary economic challenges, as Musk himself acknowledged during an October town hall.

If successful, the department could set a precedent for outsourcing government advisory roles to private-sector leaders.
