The director of three museums in the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon, Eliseo Garza Salinas, was murdered on Friday night in his home in Obispado, Monterrey. The 68-year-old was apparently the victim of a robbery as an unknown number of assailants entered his house in Padre Mier street. Garza Salinas was found inside one of his bedrooms with his hands bound and with wounds and contusions from beatings to the head which were the cause of his death.
According to police spokesman Jorge Domene Zambrano, the motive for the crime is being investigated as Garza Salinas' bedroom was found in complete disarray. His car was apparently stolen by the perpetrator and found hours later a few blocks from the house. Garza Salinas was the director of the Museum of Mexican History, the Museum of the Northeast and the Museum of Government Palace, which together are called the Three Museums.
Garza Salinas had worked for many years in Nuevo Leon's public service. He occupied several important public roles in the areas of arts and culture.
