Match Preview

El Salvador manager Agustin Castillo will guide the club to its seventh appearance in the Gold Cup. Reaching the quarterfinals in 2002, 2003 and 2011, Los Cuscatlecos enter the 2013 edition of the tournament as a team capable of pulling potential upsets down the road.

While the roster won't feature numerous players with worldwide recognition, the El Salvador squad does boast its fair share of talent, starting with defender Steven Purdy. A member of Major League Soccer's Chivas USA, Purdy will receive offensive support from forward Dustin Corea and midfielder Osael Romero.

A member of the national squad since 2007, the 27-year-old El Salvador native Romero has recorded 16 goals in 69 international appearances while accumulating 74 caps. Rodolfo Zelaya will also be looked up for added offense since he is widely viewed as the team's top attacking threat.

Romero and Zelaya may lead the El Salvador squad but as they enter their opening match, Trinidad and Tobago hold talented players of their own.

With Stoke City striker Kenwyne Jones on the field, T&T's offense will undoubtedly receive a boost from one of the top scoring threats in this tournament. Since latching on with his native club, the 28-year-old native of Point Fortin, Trinidad holds a total of 7 goals in 52 matches.

Performing at a high level for English Premier League affiliate Stoke City as well, Jones has earned himself 16 goals in 94 total appearances with the team. Also making a seventh tournament appearance, Trinidad and Tobago hope to enjoy success similar to the level they achieved in 2000.

Advancing to the semifinal round of the 2000 Gold Cup where they lost 1-0 to eventual champion Canada, this year's squad will be even more dangerous if Jones receives added support from Carlyle Mitchell on the defensive end along with assistance from midfielder Keon Daniel.

Led by head coach Stephen Hart - who joins T&T after spending the last 25 years as a coach in Canada - The Soca Warriors will give themselves an opportunity to advance in the tournament with a win over their opening match opponent Monday night in New Jersey.
