Mexican professional wrestler, political activist and one of the most successful stars in Lucha Libre, El Hijo del Santo, wants to team up with acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino. The youngest son of El Santo, and the only one of his ten children to follow his footsteps wants to meet the “Reservoir Dogs” mastermind to show him “El hombre detrás de la máscara,” or “The man behind the mask,” a documentary that clarifies countless doubts about the Enmascarado de Plata’s life and the mythical figure of his deceased dad.
Tarantino, who is allegedly a fan of El Santo, happens to be visiting Mexico for the Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM) or Morelia’s International Film Festival. Although he’s there just an as spectator, “Santo” doesn’t discard the possibility of running into him and show Tarantino the documentary, which was directed by Gabriela Obregón. Santo is sure the American director, actor, producer and screenwriter will like the documentary. “I know he is here at the FICM and I think I’m going to be meeting him after, which makes me very excited and gives me plenty of satisfaction. It’s an honor that Tarantino admires my father and wants to meet his son,” said El Hijo del Santo.
For the wrestler, this documentary has been a cathartic experience, because a lot of difficult moments of his life were portrayed on the big screen. He says he’s just starting to assimilate everything, but he’s happy with the result nonetheless. During his appearance at the film festival, he pleased fans with autographs, pictures and small talks. He said he doesn’t know if Tarantino has seen the documentary yet, but he’s sure he will like it because he will see El Santo in another facet of his life beyond the mask. The Enmascarado de Plata doesn’t discard the possibility of working with Tarantino in the future. “If there’s any interest from him, we’ll talk about it. I would be delighted!”
