After five years in the music biz, El Dasa is ready to make his acting debut. The Regional Mexican singer will star in an original scripted series called "El Vato" to air on NBC Universo. The 10-episodes dramedy, produced by Endemol Shine Latino and Boomdog, is based on El Dasa's real life, where aspiring crooner "El Vato" leaves his life in Mexico to land a once-in-a-lifetime record deal in Los Angeles.
“El Dasa’s inspirational, true-life story and all the fun that ensues on his rise to stardom should make ‘El Vato’ quite a ride for the network’s viewers,” said Cris Abrego, co-chairman, Endemol Shine Americas, and co-CEO, Endemol Shine North America, according to Variety.
The charismatic "Mas Que Clavado Contigo" singer was discovered in 2011 by iconic Mexican singer Vicente Fernandez in Los Angeles, when he worked as a chauffeur for celebrities. El Dasa, born Dasachev Lopez Saavedra, was invited by Chente to sing a duet with him at the Gibson Amphitheater after auditioning for him in the car. The rest, as they say, is history.
"El Vato" will also star Cristina Rodlo, Gustavo Egelhaaf, Ricardo Polanco, Itati Cantoral, Arcelia Ramirez and Mauricio Martinez.
