El Clan
Actor Guillermo Francella to star in the upcoming film "El Clan" based on the true story of the infamous kidnapping family Puccio. K & S Films

The Kramer & Sigman Films movie, “The Clan” is based on the infamous story of the so-called Puccio clan; a high-class family in the 1980’s who took on Argentina’s Dirty War techniques to form a well-rounded business of kidnapping, extorting and murdering victims for hefty amounts of money. As mentioned, the Puccio criminals didn’t end their transactions by taking the cash and running, but killed the victims just as a precautionary measure. The patriarch of the clan, Arquímedes Puccio, was a public accountant and moderate business man who was almost beyond suspicion thanks to his “lovely family” and normal life.

His alleged successor, son Alejandro, was a professional rugby player at the time, who apparently wanted out on numerous occasions with no avail. Now, almost 30 years after the unbelievable story broke, outstanding filmmaker Pablo Trapero is taking the, almost ready-made script to the big screen along with his own Matanza Cine, K & S Films, and Pedro and Agustín Almodóvar’s El Deseo in the production, and the co-production of Fox International Productions.

The cast includes Argentina’s most beloved comedian, Guillermo Francella, who’s been transformed by makeup artists to look almost exactly like the psychopath he portrays. Head of development at K & S Films, Javier Braier, told Variety, “The case that inspired ‘The Clan’ is one of the most emblematic crimes in Argentina’s history.” And continued explaining how having Francella as part of the cast and Trapero behind the cameras can guarantee any film’s success. “[Trapero] forms part of the elite of Argentine directors both in mass audience appeal and on an artistic level,” Braier said. The thriller is set to hit theatres next August 11.
