Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman was captured over a month ago, and, despite being Mexico's greatest druglord, the 56-year-old delinquent is claiming that he has no involvement in Mexico's drug cartels and is in fact a simple farmer. Mexican newspaper Excelsior has obtained a transcript of 'El Chapo's first interrogation by Mexican officials the day after his capture on February 23rd. While 'El Chapo' admitted many of the known details of his life, he denied any involvement in organized crime.
Joaquin Guzman admitted that he is the son of Emilio Guzmán Bustillos and Consuelo Loera Pérez. He admitted that he was born on the 4th of April, 1957 in La Tuna, municipality of Badiraguato, Sinaloa. He also confirmed that he is married to Alejandrina Salazar, with whom he has four children: César (33); Gisel (31); Iván (28) amd Alfredo Guzmán Salazar, who is 27. He also confirmed that he has three brothers: Emilio (59), Miguel Ángel (45) and Aureliano (43). However, this is where the factual claims of 'El Chapo' end.
In his interrogation by Mexican authorities with his lawyer present, Joaquin Guzman Loera only responded to seven questions while under interrogation. The infamous drug dealer claimed that he only finished elementary school and that he is actually a simple farmer who farms beans, corn, sorghum and safflower. He claims that this is his only income and that he has no involvement with organized crime of any kind. Despite his undoubted culpability, here are the seven outrageous claims made by 'El Chapo.'
1. He's a farmer
2. He doesn't take drugs.
3. His monthly salary is 20,000 pesos, or roughly $1,500 US dollars.
4. He doesn't belong to any drug cartels.
5. He doesn't know anyone involved in organized crime.
6. He only drinks alcohol rarely.
7. He doesn't have a phone or an email address.
