Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán is not yet behind bars. The Sinaloa Cartel leader is in isolation and in custody inside an office wthin the the maximum security Altiplano Prison in the State of Mexico. This dashes rumors that the cartel king had died in custody. One of the Mexican Attorney General's officers confirmed El Chapo's state and whereabouts to UnivisionNoticias.com, explaining that, while he is inside the prison, he is being kept in isolation and is not yet in an actual cell.

El Chapo Guzman is being kept in isolation until his fate is determined. "First he has to stay for a pre-determined period here in Mexico. Eventually they are going to put him behind bars. They are going to take him to prison when the judge determines it is appropriate," said José Luis Manjarrez, from the Attorney General's office. Manjarrez confirmed that El Chapo is alive and well, debunking the rumor that appeared on tierradelnarco.com.

"There is an area that is attached to the Federal Public Ministry of the jail. That is to say, he is not yet inside the prison itself, he is inside one of the ministerial offices." Manjarrez, assured the press that El Chapo was still being kept under the tightest security. El Chapo Guzman was arrested on Saturday morning in the beachside town of Mazatlan after a joint operation between the CIA, DEA, US Marines and Mexican authorities. He may be extradited to the United States.
