For all the fun Dwight Howard has had in his 10-year NBA career, establishing himself as one of the NBA's best players, the Los Angeles Lakers forward is apparently having an even better time off the court.
As Examiner.com reports, Dwight Howard has a fifth child on the way. This child for the NBA superstar will be his fifth baby with five different women. A video report done by AOL.com, also confirms that Howard's current girlfriend Christine Vest is looking "late second trimester pregnant."
Los Angeles is currently in a playoff match-up with the San Antonio Spurs and after dropping Game 1 by a score of 91-79, L.A. can not afford to drop Game 2 on Wednesday night. Falling into an 0-2 hole without leading scorer Kobe Bryant would be a tough situation to overcome no matter who the opponent is.
In the absence of Bryant, Howard has certainly stepped up his level of play. In the Game 1 loss against the Spurs, Howard led the team with 20 points and pulled down 15 rebounds so at least for the time being, it does not appear that the 27-year-old is distracted by the upcoming arrival of his fifth child.
One thing certainly on the mind of Howard however is the current battle with ex-girlfriend Royce Reed for custody of their son Braylon who was born in 2007.
Howard initially won a defamation judgment over Reed in 2010 according to Examiner and he still continues to pursue sole custody of Braylon. The defamation suit was granted to Howard because Reed - a former dancer for Howard's previous team the Orlando Magic - violated a court order barring her from speaking about Howard in the media following the couples break-up.
Drafted in 2004 by the Magic, Howard has already been named NBA Defensive Player of the Year 3 times while appearing on 7 NBA All-Star teams. Career averages of over 18 points and 12 rebounds per contest have clearly helped Howard become the best big man in the league.
With child No. 5 on the way, it seems Dwight will still be able to focus on his career while providing for his family.
20 points and 15 rebounds to start the 2012-2013 NBA Playoffs was a pretty good indicator that it takes a lot to break the focus of Dwight Howard.
