Wheels are in motion for “Dune: Part 2” and it appears some familiar faces will be joining the cast.
Per reports, Austin Butler is one of the new faces that may appear in the sequel. The Elvis star is currently in negotiations to join the all-star ensemble cast that includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya and Josh Brolin, Deadline reported.
So far, Legendary has to comment on the matter. However, “Dune: Part 2” production is expected to kick off in the fall with the film scheduled to be released on Oct. 20, 2023.
In the 1984 David Lynch film, it was Sting who took on the role of Feyd-Rautha. Rautha is a favorite among fans of the Frank Herbert novel and a character to play a major role in the sequel.
In the novel, he is the younger nephew and heir of the Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, and is depicted to be as similarly cruel, treacherous and cunning as his uncle.
“Dune: Part One” had an opening weekend of $41 million, exceeding expectations. The success paved the way for the creation of a sequel.
To date “Dune” has grossed $400 million at the worldwide box office to date including $108 million domestically. It also recently racked up nine Oscar nominations including for Best Picture.
Aside from Butler, also in talks to appear on “Dune: Part Two” are Florence Pugh for a part.
Butler had a key part on Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He took on the role of being a member of the Manson family who meets his demise thanks to Brad Pitt.
Aside from this, Butler also starred in The Shannara Chronicles, the MTV fantasy series. Butler is repped by WME, Anonymous Content and Sloane Offer, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
