The National Theatre has selected Duchess Camilla as its royal patron, a position previously held by Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex.
The announcement comes nearly two years after Meghan and Prince Harry stood down as senior working royals to start a new life in the United States.
Reports said The Queen appointed Meghan Markle to the position in 2019. The Duchess of Sussex held the said role for two years until she and Prince Harry stood down as working royal family members.
Meghan made one public appearance in January 2019 and returned privately in March 2020 during her time on the job.
An insider told the Sunday Times : "[Camilla] really wanted it. She was pretty miffed when it went to Meghan."
The Queen, who is celebrating her Platinum Jubilee this year, is expected to hand Camilla Parker Bowles, 74, the key post in the coming months.
The soon-to-be Queen will be "all the more delighted to take it on now, after being disappointed not to get it the first time around," the insider said.
On the other hand, the National Theater isn't unfamiliar with its wedge.
Duchess Camilla gave a speech at the Olivier Awards in October 2020. She emphasized the value of the theatre industry while underscoring the strains it had been put under by the pandemic.
“I believe in theatre. It’s the cornerstone of a fertile cultural life, a forum for debate and a powerful means of building community,” she said per reports.
“Perhaps, more importantly, those of us who believe in the theatre also believe in its resilience. I should like to thank those of you whose profession is in the theatre for your determination and flexibility,” she added.
Duchess Camilla urged the industry to remain resilient as they are needed, and people badly missed the theater.
According to the Mirror in 2020, Camilla was "very enraged" after Meghan Markle insisted on her photographs at the theater being posted on the same day she gave a major speech.
Camilla Parker Bowles is supposed to have spent a year preparing her speech at the Women of the World Festival's 10th anniversary.
Despite this, the Duchess of Sussex appears to have broken a commitment not to have her mother-in-anti-abuse law's campaign overshadowed by having images of her visit to the theater released on the same day as her mother-in-law's.
Palace sources said: "[Camilla] has worked tirelessly, mostly behind the scenes but to great effect, to use her platform and personal experiences to highlight the issue and help sufferers."
"Of course, it was known Harry and Meghan would be doing engagements this week, some privately, but everyone was in agreement that Camilla's speech should take precedence. Unfortunately, some people had other ideas."
