An Indian man, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol during the time of the attack, has been accused of heinously killing his own three-month-old infant son by smashing the boy's head against a wall following a heated argument with his wife. The incident happened in Bhalswa Dairy, Delhi, India on Dec. 3.
The man, identified as 26-year-old Ravi Rai, reportedly returned home drunk on late Dec. 3 evening, angering his wife. An explosive confrontation immediately gripped the couple before taking a violent turn. During the argument, Rai, in a fit of rage, allegedly held his three-month-old infant child by the legs and bashed his head against a wall, NDTV reported.
Police officers responded to the scene after they received a call at around 10:30 p.m. alerting them that a man had killed his newborn child in Samta Vihar’s Mangal Bazar Road locality of Delhi. The authorities found Rai under the influence of alcohol in the residence after rushing to the area.
Even though the child was immediately rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram (BJRM) hospital, the newborn was declared dead upon arrival. The skull of the child was reportedly found ruptured and broken, according to the child's medico-legal case (MLC).
The couple's neighbors and the landlord said that the accused and his family moved into the apartment about a month ago, adding that they noticed the duo argue on almost a daily basis. Rai was reportedly unemployed and the couple's constant bickering was fueled by money woes.
On the evening of Dec. 3, neighbors said that they heard the couple again shouting and arguing in their flat. However, later that night, the distraught woman rushed out of their apartment shouting that her husband had killed her child, Hindustan Times reported.
Rai has been arrested and remains in police custody. Meanwhile, the officers are trying to find out the reason behind the quarrel that led to the child’s killing.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a man allegedly threw his 14-month old daughter on the ground and killed her during an argument with his wife at their house in Noida, Uttar Pradesh in July last year, the Free Press Journal reported.
The man, identified as Jamshed, 28, who works as a laborer, allegedly threw his daughter at his wife, 23, while the couple was arguing at their house in a JJ colony in Sector 22 of Noida. The child was taken to a local hospital and was later referred to Delhi for advanced treatment. However, the child died while she was being transferred to a hospital in Delhi.
The father was arrested and a case was lodged under Indian Penal Code section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) against him.
