Massachusetts Governor, Deval Patrick opened up about the days following the successful capture of Boston Bombing suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. While speaking at a Boston marketing firm, Patrick stated that he retreated to his rural home after the manhunt and got "quite drunk."
On Wednesday, Patrick revealed to employees at HubSpot, a marketing firm located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, that following Tsarnaev's capture he went alone to a restaurant and got drunk.
Patrick and his wife sought relief in Berkshire County, the day after the manhunt. AP reported, that the Patrick's own a vacation home in Richmond, which is about three hours west of Boston.
Patrick said that he went for a swim to clear his head, and then went to a local restaurant alone to read a book, AP reports. The restaurant's co-owner sat him in an isolated corner, away from other customers.
"She starts bringing me things to drink as a celebration. And by the end of the meal, I was actually quite drunk, by myself," Patrick said, according to the Boston Herald.
Governor Patrick also confined at HubSpot that he worried that people would complain about the "shelter in place" order he enacted as a safety measure. Patrick ordered a lock down on the city of Boston and several surrounding suburbs to ensure the safety of local residents and help assist police searching for Tsarnaev.
President Barack Obama phoned Patrick on April 19 and discussed the lock down with the governor, advising him that he could not keep Boston and its surrounding area locked down indefinitely, the governor said.
Patrick added that, had Tsarnaev not been captured, he would have called off the "shelter in place" order as soon as authorities had completed their door-to-door search in Watertown.
