A South Carolina drunk driver who killed Samantha "Sam" Miller, 34, five hours after she married Aric Hutchinson in April 2023 was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Monday.
"You have ruined so many people's lives, and I hope you understand what you did," Brad Warner, Samantha's father, told Jamie Lee Komoroski, who was 25 at the time of the fatal crash, after her sentencing was read in court.
"For the rest of my life I'm going to hate you. And when I arrive in hell and you come there, I'm going to open the gate for you," Warner added, according to reporting by CNN.
Komoroski pleaded guilty to one count of felony DUI, two counts of felony DUI with great bodily harm and one count of reckless homicide for crashing her car into the newlyweds' golf-cart style vehicle the night of their wedding.
She was traveling 65 mph in a 25-mph zone on April 28, according to Folly Beach Police Chief Andrew Gilreath. Law enforcement obtained a warrant to test Komoroski's blood, which had a blood alcohol content of 0.261%, more than three times the legal limit.
"This is the worst decision I have ever made in my life, and it has affected the lives of so many," Komoroski told the court before her sentencing. "I take full responsibility for the tragic outcome that my decisions have made. I will carry this guilt with me for the rest of my life."
