The story of “Dracula” has seemingly been told for generations, however Universal is attempting to reinvent the tale by telling the untold story of Dracula, more specifically the unknown story of the man who became the world’s most infamous vampire. The aptly named “Dracula: Untold” is set to be released in theaters on October 17, and while fantasy fans still have a bit of a wit ahead of them, a just released teaser poster gives fans some indications of what to expect from the last vampire film. The poster, which features Luke Evans as pre-Dracula, teases fans with an ominous tag line “Every bloodline has a beginning.” Evans portrays, Vlad III Temps, the 15th century Prince of Wallachia, who was a member of the House of Drăculești of Transylvania, which was ruled by Hungary at that time.
The prince was known by his nickname, Dracula, which was given to him at a young age by his father. Despite the teaser poster showing Luke Evans as the still human, Vlad III Temps, it possesses a symbolic quality that alludes to his transition into the legendary vampire. Standing in front of a medieval style castle, Evans’ character is sporting heavy and elaborate armor, standing amongst and seemingly on a large number of fallen soldiers. The prince seems to be a skilled and impressive fighter, but perhaps his abilities have a more sinister origin, in addition to the armor, Vlad’s cloak has transformed into some sort of wings. The black, billowing wings are interwoven into a huge swarm of bats clearly paying homage to his soon to be alternate form Dracula shifts into.
“Dracula: Untold” is directed by Gary Shore and while the exact plot details are still shrouded in secrecy, the story is set to chronicle the early life and human life of Dracula. As opposed to early inceptions of the tale, Dracula was a regular man before becoming the world’s most iconic and notorious vampire. Before becoming Dracula, Vlad II Temps has a wife, Mirena who will be played by Canadian actress Sarah Gordon. Another casting provides some insight into the still unknown plot, and obvious untold origins of Drtcaula, actress Samantha Barks is set to play Baba Yaga, a beautiful yet deadly woman who turns into an evil and menacing witch.
Check out the teaser poster above for “Dracula: Untold” and stay tuned for the upcoming trailer. Despite a difficult start with the adaptation of Dracula’s iconic story, Universal may have finally created a vampire tale to rival the “Batman” trilogy!
