Money Geek released a report detailing the cities where Latina find the most financial prosperity. Doral, in Miami, came on top, while Downey, in California, followed suit.
Notably, Doral has the highest rate in the U.S. of Latinas with bachelor's degrees or higher, with 51% of Hispanic American women checking that box. 83% of people in Doral are Hispanic or Latino, with 8% of Hispanic women living below the poverty line.
In Downey, 74.2% of people are Hispanic or Latino and 11% of Latinas live below the poverty line. When it comes to education, 20.6% of Latinas in Downey had a bachelors degree or higher.
In contrast,Camden, N.J., scored the lowest, with 6.5% of Hispanic women with bachelor's degrees and 42.8% of Hispanic women living below the poverty line. However, homeownership was a bright spot in the report, as the city ranked third in that area.
Passaic, also in New Jersey, ranked first as the city with the most Latina homeowners at 30%.
A stark contrast between Doral and Camden is the median value of owner-occupied housing units. In Doral, the median value is $420,300, while in Camden, it's $85,800. The median gross rent is also much lower in Camden, sitting at $999 a month, while in Doral, the average rent is $2,714.
Following Doral in the Educational area, Washington D.C. ranked second, with 48% of women holding bachelor's degrees or higher.
D.C. also sits at the top in the Hispanic women's median earning category, coming at the top of the list with an average of $79,391 a year. Seattle, in Washington, holds the second place. Money Geek attributes this high median earnings to the high-paying industries, which in Washington D.C. are government jobs and in San Francisco and Seattle are tech jobs.
The city with the highest growth in two-year earnings for Latinas was Carson, Calif., with 84% growth. Carson has a Hispanic or Latino population of 37.9% and has a higher median value of owner-occupied homes than Doral. In Carson, the median value of an owner-occupied home is $541,900, but the median rent is $1,658, lower than in Doral.
The top five metro areas with the highest percentage of Latina business owners are: Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach, Fla. at 8%, San Antonio-New Braunfels, Texas, at 5%, Albuquerque, N.M., 5%, Corpus Christi, Texas, at 4%, and San Diego-Carlsbad, Calif., at 4%.
The city that scored the worst for Latina business ownership was Grand Rapid, Michigan, coming at 0.1% of businesses owned by Latinas. Grand Rapids scored second worst city financially for Latina women, scoring 3.39. In Grand Rapids, 2.4% of Latinas own their homes. In Grand Rapids, the median value of an owner-occupied home is $168,700, and the average rent is $1,013.
