Eva Longoria, who herself become a mom just recently, landed a big role, playing Dora’ss mom in the highly-anticipated movie, “Dora and the Lost City of Gold.” In an interview, she shared how it is portraying this role and being part of a movie showcasing “the first Latina superhero.”
In an interview with Khaleej Times, Longoria described how it is to play Elena, Dora’s mother. First of all, she said that it is amazing to be part of a movie adaptation of this “iconic character for the Latino community.” She did not even know Dora is that big across the world!
“I thought she was just ours. And then everybody called me from Europe when it was announced, and they were like, "Oh my God; you know, you're going to be Dora's mum!" And I was thinking, "How do you know who she is?" So to find out that she was internationally known was surprising and exciting,” she said.
As a new mom at her 40s, she said that portraying a mom on this project feels quite special. She identifies now with the role a lot because she is already a mother. She personally thinks being a new mom is opening her to new acting opportunities or roles she might not have gotten in the past. “So, I think I'm being identified a lot as a new mum. So sometimes, you'll get cast, that's because that's who you are,” she shared.
Asked specifically about how she feels about the movie portraying a strong female character, she shared that this type of movies is important. Dora for her is “smart, brave, fearless, and kind,” a true-blue “first Latina superhero.” As such, it is important that kids can see Dora because they are not given that much of an opportunity to be exposed to such characters.
