Former US President Donald Trump is likely to pay a visit to the US- Mexico border towards the end of the month, following Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s invitation. Trump confirmed the reports of his impending visit to the “unmitigated disaster zone,” lambasting the ruling party for its state of affairs.
“Biden and Harris have handed control of our border over to cartels, criminals, and coyotes. Drug dealers, MS-13 gang members, human smugglers, sex traffickers, and the criminal elements of the world now have free reign,” said Trump said in a statement, as cited on Fox News. “What Biden and Harris have done, and are continuing to do on our border, is a grave and willful dereliction of duty,” he added.
The statements come shortly after Abbott revealed his POA in a recent interview. “We will continue that process of building the border wall in addition to these other strategies that we will use to make sure that anybody coming here will understand Texas is the wrong state to come into,” stated Abbott in the interview.
A recent tweet by Abbott suggested the same, in which the governor swore to unveil the administration’s plan to build a border wall, explicitly mentioning how the Lone Star State is taking proactive measures to protect citizens along the southern border.
The border wall project was an undertaking for which President Biden had signed up an executive order on his Inauguration Day. While the initiative was spearheaded by Trump, Biden’s administration ended the former administration’s national emergency declaration and several other relevant policies pertaining to it.
Vice President Kamala Harris drew ire from her own party after she warned migrants against making the dangerous trek to the US border. The comments come as the US witnessed an unprecedented surge in migrant encounters at the border, totaling over 180,000 in May, according to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Harris and Biden are yet to pay a visit to the border, despite revealing how she had plans to do so.
Harris’ reps were unavailable for comment, following the recent spate of controversies that have surrounded the subject.
