Donald J. Trump is getting out of the pageant business; the controversial presidential candidate has sold the entire Miss Universe Organization, which includes the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageant groups, to the talent and marketing agency WME/IMG. The deal comes just days after Mr.Trump announced on Twitter that he had bought out NBC'S half of the organization.
"I have truly enjoyed owning the Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants," the GOP front-runner said in a statement. "When I purchased the pageants many years ago, they were in serious trouble. It has been a great honor making them so successful. The pageants are now in the hands of a great company that will shepherd them to even greater levels of success."
According to Variety, financial details were not disclosed for WME/IMG's purchase of the organization. Chief content officer, Mark Shapiro, discussed on a statement about his positive approval of the strategic acquisition.
"Having worked closely with The Miss Universe Organization in the past, we understand the incredible potential of the events and the star-quality of the participants, the global reach of The Miss Universe Organization and the content opportunities presented by the pageants make this a strong, strategic addition to our portfolio." Shapiro said.
Trump’s association with Miss Universe recently came under fire after he made offensive remarks toward the Latino community.
