Donald Trump has made his whole campaign by instilling fear into the most susceptible Americans. The Republican presidential candidate has marginalized groups like undocumented Latinos and Muslims by blaming them for the troubles in our country. Although the former "Celebrity Apprentice" host proclaims to "love Hispanics" and even celebrate holidays like Cinco De Mayo eating "the best taco bowls" that "are made in Trump Tower Grill," his actions tell otherwise.
Azteca freelance correspondant, Marcos Stupenengo, was doing a story on the candidate at Trump Tower in New York on Monday. The reporter had all the permissions to do his piece at the location, but an incident happened that made Trump's camp shut down the job. Turns out that when the Argentina-born journalist was waiting, he received a call that he conducted in Spanish. This is when campaign managers flipped and refused to allow Stupenengo to continue his work.
“I can say that after 13 years of journalism worse things have happened to me,” Stupenengo told Buzzfeed in a statement. The reporter later tweeted, "Just to clarify, No personal interview with Donald Trump was canceled. A film request was approved by phone and denied on site." Marcos wanted to make it clear that he was not at Trump Tower waiting on a persnoal interview with Donald Trump, as many outlets have reported.
Buzzfeed further reports that Stupenengo was given a badge, but was later denied permission to be on the site. Security was not able to locate the person that authorized him to be at Trump Tower. TV Azteca said that a Trump campaign official told Stupenengo. "We’re not interested in coverage from Spanish-language media.” Univision reached out to Trump's camp with spokewoman Hope Hicks denying the reporter was turned away for Speaking Spanish.
