Donald Trump is making the headlines again, but this time he is not the one to blame. The GOP front-runner’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, was charged with misdemeanor battery for grabbing Breitbart News reporter, Michelle Fields, as she tried to ask the candidate a question during one of his rallies on March 8.
Trump’s campaign staff released an official statement indicating that Lewandowski was not arrested prior to being charged, as some sources have been reporting for the past few hours, and that he willingly attended court as he was required to do on Tuesday.
“Mr. Lewandowski was issued a notice to appear and was given a court date. He was not arrested. Mr. Lewandowski is absolutely innocent of this charge. He will enter a plea of not guilty and looks forward to his day in court. He is completely confident that he will be exonerated,” read Hope Hicks’s statement, a spokeswoman for Mr. Trump.
The Presidential hopeful took to social media to express his feelings about the allegations being made against his aide and exposed Fields as a liar. “Wow, Corey Lewandowski, my campaign manager and a very decent man, was just charged with assaulting a reporter. Look at tapes-nothing there!” he wrote on Twitter.
He later posted a photo of the reporter grabbing his arm when the press conference was over on the day of the happenings and asked if he could “press charges” too.
According to the real estate mogul’s recent post, Fields has changed her “tune” since it was revealed that his office had footage evidence of the Victory press conference.
“I was jolted backwards. Someone had grabbed me tightly by the arm and yanked me down. I almost fell to the ground, but was able to maintain my balance. Nonetheless, I was shaken…campaign managers aren’t supposed to try to forcefully throw reporters to the ground,” says Fields’s latest statement according to Trump.
