Don Francisco is back! The Chilean host, who ended his iconic Univision show “Sábado Gigante” last year, is returning to Spanish television with “Don Francisco Te Invita,” airing the very first episode this Sunday, October 9 at 10pm on Telemundo. The show will have a number of segments and guests, and will include musical numbers, celebrities, influential people in the Latin community, and interesting interviews like only Don Francisco knows how to lead.
To kick off the new talk show, Don Francisco, whose real name is Mario Kreutzberger, will have Mexican regional singer Larry Hernández, Venezuelan chart-topping duo Chino y Nacho and Juan Gabriel’s longtime producer and orchestra director Eduardo Magallanes. Aside from their musical performances, the artists will sit down for an interview with Don Francisco, who will be accompanied by Mexican journalist Jessica Carrillo.
As for Magallanes, cccording to a statement from Telemundo, he will "unveil details of the man also known as 'El Divo de Juárez,' and talk about the first time the music legend auditioned in 1969, signed his first recording contract, and collaborated in almost every production he created since 1971 until most recently before he passed away."
To create expectation around the show, and get viewers interested, Don Francisco released a video in which he’s seen in a car, apparently waiting for someone. Seconds later, Rafael Amaya enters the vehicle in full Aurelio Casillas mode, talking how “El Señor de los Cielos” is Telemundo’s top show and how he doesn’t like competition. The legendary host then assures him his show will not compete directly with Casillas’ and they can get along in peace.
The two characters later bond by singing Juan Gabriel’s hit “Querida” in a bit that reminds us a lot of James Corden’s famous “Carpool Karaoke,” a segment of “The Late Late Show” in which stars sing their songs in cars with Corden, making for highly popular clips that usually become viral videos.
