Documentary on UnitedHealthcare CEO Killing Already Being Developed by Oscar-Winning Filmmaker

A documentary about the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson is already in the works, less than two weeks after Thompson's assassination.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney's Jigsaw Productions teaming up with Anonymous Content to produce the project, Variety reported.

Thompson was fatally shot on Dec. 4 in midtown Manhattan, just before he was set to speak at an investor conference. Five days later, police apprehended 26-year-old Luigi Mangione in Pennsylvania for the killing.

Mangione, an Ivy League graduate and former valedictorian of his Maryland high school, was reportedly carrying a manifesto at the time of his arrest, referencing Michael Moore's 2007 documentary Sicko, which criticized the U.S. healthcare system.

The upcoming documentary will explore the societal implications of Thompson's death, focusing on the divisive public reaction, frustrations with the healthcare industry, and the broader issues of inequality and access to care.

Thompson's leadership at UnitedHealthcare, a company criticized for rejecting claims at twice the industry average, has made his death a flashpoint for debates over healthcare in America.

Mangione, who reportedly suffered from debilitating back pain and underwent spinal surgery, has yet to be indicted but has retained high-profile attorney Karen Friedman Agnifilo.

Gibney, whose Taxi to the Dark Side won an Academy Award in 2008, is known for tackling hard-hitting subjects. This documentary marks the third collaboration between Anonymous Content (Spotlight, The Revenant) and Jigsaw Productions.
