A water bottle full of dry ice burst in a trashcan at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Calif. Tuesday, prompting the park to evacuate the Toontown area of the park for a couple of hours.
Police said Wednesday that an arrest has been made in the blast and investigations are currently underway, the CS Monitor reported.
Christian Barnes, a vendor in the Toontown region of the park, is accused of the act due to the fact that he would have access to dry ice, used to keep refreshments cool, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The 22-year-old employee was booked by Anaheim police on suspicion of possession of a destructive device and was being held on $1 million bail.
No one was injured in the cartoonized part of the park -- most popular among younger children and families -- after the explosion occurred around 5:30 p.m. local time. Police described the blast in a statement as "an isolated incident with unanticipated impacts."
Disney declined to give extensive information about the employee, a resident of Long Beach, possible consequences or what investigations have found thus far and instead issued a one-line statement from Suzi Brown, spokeswoman for Disneyland Resort.
"We take matters like this very seriously and are working closely with local authorities," she told reporters.
Toontown was reopened after about two hours once police indicated the area was safe and caused no harm or significant damage to park property.
"When officers arrived, they were directed to a trash can and found remnants of a water bottle, which is indicative of a dry ice explosion," the Anaheim Police Department said in its statement.
Raymond Barnes Sr., the employee's father, said that his son was a good person and would never cause any harm. He told reporters that the incident is being blown out of proportion and that his son is innocent.
