Amid the leak of a photo of a partially decapitated mouse on the production floor of a frozen peas factory, the produce company accused of the sanitary infraction has claimed that the gruesome image was staged by one of its disgruntled former employees.

A personnel at Yorkshire Greens, who claimed that he has worked at the factory for several years, shared the disturbing photos of a partially headless mouse near the frozen produce storage at one of the Kirkburn company's sites. The employee had asserted that factory standards had slipped under new management.

However, the company has vehemently denied the allegations and stated that the claims come from a disgruntled former employee who is trying to damage the reputation of their business, the Hull Daily Mail reported.

Yorkshire Greens is an East Yorkshire pea company in Kirkburn, England. The company is a major supplier of the frozen food market in the U.K. It is also a partnership between local farmers and a producer of "green" electricity and gas.

Yorkshire Greens had recently appointed a new site manager to improve efficiencies on the site and also to establish better working practices.

The company said that they have taken disciplinary actions against employees who have not been able to operate at the very high standards required by their business and believe that the allegations come from one of the personnel that had to be asked to leave the company.

"It is our strongly held view that these claims are from a disgruntled employee who has recently been asked to leave our employment and is now trying to damage the reputation of our business," the company spokesperson said.

The Yorkshire Greens spokesperson added that their pest control is managed by an external BCPA approved contractor (ECOLAB) and that they have a biologist who visits four times per year to review their pest control systems and provide further advice on how to improve their operations.

He added that the area where the mouse was found had a temperature of -25C and noted that a mouse cannot survive at that temperature.

In addition to the company's own internal auditing systems, the spokesperson claims that Yorkshire Greens is audited annually to BRC (British Retail Consortium) standards and has achieved AA status. He added that local Environmental Health Officers have also visited their site.
