A Milwaukee County judge has been suspended after being charged with two counts of distributing child pornography in the U.S. District Court of Madison.
Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Brett Blomme, 40, who was a juvenile court judge, faces a mandatory minimum of five years in prison on each of the two child pornography distribution charges he faces, on top of the child pornography possession complaints against him in the Dane County Circuit Court, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.
Seven counts of possessing child pornography against Blomme remain pending after he pleaded guilty to the said charges last month. For each possession charge, he faces a mandatory minimum of three years to a maximum of 25 years in prison.
According to the criminal complaint, investigations on Blomme started in February after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children flagged a user on the Kik messaging app named “DomMasterbb” uploaded pornographic images and videos of children 27 times in October and November last year, the New York Post wrote.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the alleged uploads were traced to a home Blomme and his husband own in Cottage Grove. The couple has two adopted children, however, no records show that they were in any of the videos and images of kids being sexually abused.
During his initial court appearance earlier this year, Blomme’s defense attorney said that Child Protective Services was working on the adopted children’s current placement.
Before his preliminary hearing in April, he was also ordered not to use social media or have unsupervised contact with children
The complaint had also stated that a handful of the files seized from Blomme in Dane County depicted sexual assault perpetrated by adults on underage children. The state Supreme Court in March suspended Blomme with no pay.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett told WISN earlier this year that the allegations are alarming
“Before he was elected to the bench, the judge served as chair of the Board of Zoning Appeals, an appointed board in city government. The reports of the arrest came as a complete surprise,” Barrett said.
Blomme was elected to Milwaukee County’s Branch 5 in April 2020 and started work in August. He had only been in office for about eight months before the complaints surfaced.
