Diego Luna is starting the year strong after starring in the global smash hit "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." Now, the Mexican actor is rumored to be in talks to be the new Tony Montana in a "Scarface" reboot. Trade magazine Variety first reported the news that Luna is attached to star in the project. Anthony Fuqua was to direct the reimagination of the cult classic, but has exited to focus on previously established projects.

The Al Pacino-starring movie "Scarface" that was released in the 80s, is in turn a remake of a 1932 film that starred Paul Muni. The Brian De Palma-directed work was set in Miami as a Cuban refugee rises to power and become a powerful drug lord. "Scarface" also featured stars like Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Steven Bauer and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Telenovelas set in the drug trafficking world like "El Señor de los Cielos," "El Capo," "Señora Acero," and "La Reina del Sur" have proven to draw huge audiences. Television series like "Narcos" are getting in on the action and now the trend is coming to film.

Luna is a great choice to take on the iconic character as he is an actor that transforms. In describing his experience on preparing for "Rogue One" he told us: "I spent about two weeks with ex-military men in London, and besides learning how to patrol, how to move, how to lead a squad, it was also a lot of listening to their stories, asking them questions that mattered to me and I needed to understand, like what happens when they capture you, or what happens when they capture someone, all this stuff that my character would know perfectly, that I don’t know because to me war is a theme I don’t really like getting into."

"I’m not obsessed with weapons or firing… I kind of hate it. But I do have to say that here it’s lasers, it’s something I’ve been playing all my life. I played as a kid, I played with my son and my daughter and now I got to play with the real thing, with the real “toys” in what looked like a theme park to me! The set was spectacular. Every set we went to was spectacular! It was fun, still when I describe it. Also, I’m talking with this much excitement because I’ve been silent for two years. I was not allowed to share any of this with anyone."
