Diego Boneta posted a picture on Instagram showing the actor with legendary Brazilian player Pele. "The best football player of all time," the actor wrote. "The living legend..Pele. It is an honor to be in this film." Beneta is in the middle of filming a movie adaptation of the legendary Brazilian's life, where he will play Jose, one of his greatest rivals and the player who gave Pele his iconic nickname. The picture shows Beneta and Pele holding a signed Brazilian soccer jersey.
Pele's still untitled biopic will be released next year. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the cast includes Vincent D'Onofrio, Rodrigo Santoro, Diego Boneta, Colm Meaney and Seu Jorge. The legend himself will be played by newcomers Kevin de Paula from ages 13 to 17 and Leonardo Lima Carvalho at age 10. Imagine Entertainment and Seine Pictures are producing the film, with Sein Pictures financing the film having secured the rights to Pele's story from Sports Licensing International B.V. The inspirational sports drama is written and being directed byMichael and Jeff Zimbalist.
Diego Beneta is a Mexican actor and singer best known for playing Rocco in the Mexican soap opera Rebelde. His first role on American television was on CW's 90210. He has also recorded a debut album, Responde in 2005.
