At the Television Critics Association press tour, Showtime's president David Nevins announced that Dexter's show runner, Scott Buck, had signed a new overall deal, to develop new projects for them.

Nevins was asked if there would be a follow-up series to "Dexter." In response, the Showtime executive noted the deal with producer Buck and suggested that reporters draw their own conclusion.

The reporters continued to question Nevins regarding the idea of a spin-off. Nevins responded with, "There are always things that can be done".

"We have a deal with Scott and we are going to talk to a bunch of different things with him. I don't know anything. There is nothing real. There's no sense of whether it will happen, if it will happen, but I want to stay in business with Scott," continued Nevins.
