In Ondo, a 35-year-old man was arrested for reportedly raping his neighbor's 9-year-old daughter. Kelvin Abugu, a farmer, was later detained after admitting to the police that he “inserted his hand and later his penis into her private part.”
According to the Premium Times Nigeria, The Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami, made this known in Akure when he paraded 11 individuals accused of various crimes and gave an account of his stewardship since taking office in the state in May.
The mother of the victim reported the incident to the police when she saw her daughter bleeding from her private area.
“On May 2, 2021, at about 2:20 p.m., Agnes Emmanuel reported to the Police that she saw her daughter passing out blood from her private part and when asked, she said it was one Kelvin Abugu who inserted his hand and later his penis into her private part,” Salami told news outlets. “He was immediately arrested and has confessed to the offense and the case is ready for prosecution,” he added.
According to the 35-year-old farmer, he enticed the little girl into his room under the guise of watching TV with him and shut the door behind her as soon as she entered.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the crime and pinned it on the devil.
"I don’t know what came on me, I pounced on the little girl and defiled her before I knew what was happening,” Abugu said.
According to Salami, authorities from the Ondo State Police Command have detained 14 people for a variety of crimes, including murder, armed robbery, and rape from February to March.
