Detroit Pistons’ Cade Cunningham will miss the rest of the 2022-23 NBA season after undergoing season-ending shin surgery. It was reported that Cunningham would be out indefinitely on November 19th after the Pistons feared he suffered a stress fracture in his injured shin. Cunningham has battled with the injury for about two years, he and Detroit have decided that surgery would be the best option moving forward.
“We expect him to come back and be even better,” Pistons general manager Troy Weaver said. “He’s been dealing with the issue a little bit off and on for a while. We want him to be healthy and be himself.” Cunningham is expected to make a full recovery and return before the start of next year’s training camp.
Cunningham has been limited to 12 games this year where he’s averaged 19.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and six assists.
Detroit is 7–22 on the season with their next contest against the Charlotte Hornets.
