The contrast

A Democratic senator posted on Monday a series of pictures comparing the scenes on the day of President-elect Donald Trump's certification with that of Joe Biden four years ago, when Trump supporters assaulted the Capitol seeking to overturn the result of the election.

"I'm walking through the Capitol this morning and took some photos in the same spots as what we saw 4 years ago," said Kim in his publication.

Images feature now historical moments, including a lone police officer attempting to stop a group of rioters, a man carrying a confederate flag through the hallways, as well as smashed windows and troops resting in the Capitol.

The certification was conducted without issues on Monday, with Vice President Kamala Harris having to preside over the session and announce her own defeat. It was a stark contrast with the same date four years ago, when Trump supporters invaded the Capitol in hopes of interrupting the certification of President Joe Biden's victory.

Since then, Republicans— led by Trump himself— have rebranded the January 6 rioters as "tourists," despite deaths, hundreds of injuries and even hundreds of convictions handed down by courts. Trump has also promised to pardon most of those found guilty of the insurrection, rioters that were inspired to go down to Capitol Hill after he encouraged them to "fight like hell" at a D.C. rally hours later. He has also tried to rebrand that infamous day as a "beautiful day" and a "day of love."
