Two are out, but one is in: After Britney Spears and L.A. Reid announced they would not return to "X Factor," FOX announced on Thursday that Demi Lovato will be returning as a judge and mentor for the new season.

"I am so excited to return as a judged on 'X Factor,'" said Lovato in a press release. "Last season was an unbelievable experience. I look forward to applying it to make this season even better."

The news come after the singer played coy for a while about returning for the new season, saying that at the end of the day, she is a musician and could not rule out the possibility of going on tour.

"It's just a matter of making things work," she added. And she did, as she is indeed going on tour later this year.

How will her return be welcomed at the table? Simon Cowell, with whom she bumped heads more than once last year, said he "couldn't be happier Demi wants to come back this year. She's a superstar in her own right and was a fantastic mentor last year."

The polemic judge also added that he enjoyed working with her last season, as did the artists.

Lovato made her "X Factor" debut on Season 2, taking charge of the "Young Adults" category that included CeCe Frey, Paige Thomas, Jennel Garcia and Willie Jones.

No more announcements have been made as of who will join Lovato and Cowell at the judge table. It has not been confirmed either if Khloe Kardashian will return as host of the show.

In addition to her upcoming world tour and going back to "X Factor," Lovato plans to release a new studio album later this year, and is already filming a music video for lead single "Heart Attack."
