We never saw it coming, but it has happened. Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama have called it quits after almost six years of dating.
The singer of Mexican descent and the Venezuelan actor revealed the heartbreaking news Friday night in a joint statement on social media, where Lovato publicly expressed the following:
After almost 6 loving and wonderful years together, we have decided to end our relationship. This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realized more than anything that we are better as best friends. We will always be supportive of one another. Thank you to everyone who has offered us kindness and support over the years. With only love, Wilmer and Demi.
Fans immediately freaked out with the news, making comments such as: "Nooo, but why?!," "I can't believe it," "best wishes for you both," and "stay strong."
Prior to their split, Lovato, who has embarked a joint tour with Nick Jonas, talked about her passionate and loving relationship with her (now, ex) Latino man to Latina magazine. “When I dated white guys, it wasn’t as passionate as my relationship with Wilmer," she said. "Maybe that’s just Wilmer. But I do believe that Latin people are just more expressive, more passionate with their emotions.”
Lovato described Valderrama as “very manly, stubborn and protective,” and that “he cares so much and loves so hard.” The singer has always been very openly grateful about Valderrama’s incredible love and support, and once more called him her best friend.
Lovato dated Valderrama throughout her heaviest and thinnest moments, and he has loved her no matter what. "He’s seen it all and loves me equally, and it gives me confidence to know that.”
The break up comes after Lovato's great-grandmother's passing and after a recent trip Valderrama made to Nicaragua.
