Demi Lovato’s father has died. The 20-year-old has cancelled a public appearance at an event for “X-Factor” in the wake of her biological father’s death. News of her father’s tragic death was first revealed by her sister, Dallas. Demi’s older sister posted a heartfelt message on her Twitter writing, "Rest in peace daddy I love you."

Demi’s father, Patrick Lovato, a former country singer, had been battling cancer for many years. Lovato’s parents divorced in 1994 when she was only 2-years-old, she has been estranged from her father since 2007. Despite being divorced from Patrick for many years, Demi’s mother was also mourning the loss of her ex-husband. Like her daughter Dallas, Dianna posted a photo of Patrick with Demi and Dallas, adding, “"Thank you all for the outpouring of love and prayers. Y'all are amazing!"

Even while mourning, a grateful Demi Lovato remembers how blessed she is. Demi publically acknowledged the death of her father by tweeting a thankful message, "I feel so humbled to have had so much support from my fans, friends, family and complete strangers, God bless you all, thank you so much love."

Demi’s rep did confirm the death of her father, although it is still unknown whether Patrick and Demi reunited before his death; they had been estranged for many years. "The last time I talked to him was two years ago.” Demi discussed the difficult relationship in her heart-wrenching song "For the Love of a Daughter" featured on her “Unbroken” album.
