Demi Lovato and Jordan 'Jutes' Lutes have wedding bells in their future. The couple, who publicly announced their romance in August 2022, got engaged this weekend in Los Angeles and shared the happy news with their fans on social media.
The couple met in January 2022, when they co-wrote the song "Substance." Lovato revealed to SiriusXM's The Morning Mash Up that the romance developed slowly. "We became friends first. We were friends for several months and then we decided to start dating, as well, after we told each other how we felt," said Lovato.
An unexpected romance
Jutes told The Nuance magazine that his love for Lovato started with deep respect. "When I got asked to pull up and write for this session, I remember thinking, WTF am I supposed to do in a Demi Lovato session? only to show up and realize she was making one of the hardest rock projects I've ever heard," he said.
Besides "Substance," the newly engaged couple also co-wrote Lovato's tracks "Happy Ending" and "City of Angels" from Lovato's recent album Holy Fvck. "One of my fav songs I've ever worked on," he wrote in an Instagram post alongside a clip of Lovato's music video.
Demi Lovato and Jutes find love
PEOPLE confirmed Lovato's relationship in early August 2022, with a source revealing at the time: "It's a really happy and healthy relationship. He's a super great guy." Then they started gushing about each other on social media.
On Lovato's 31st birthday in August, Lutes shared a carousel of sweet selfies and silly videos paying tribute to his now-fiancée.
"happy birthday to my best friend. you're obvs the most beautiful and talented person to ever do it," he captioned the post. "but more importantly you're weird af and u make me cry laughing."
Marking his birthday this March, Lovato called the indie rocker a "sweet angel." "I've waited my whole life to find you and I can't wait to celebrate so many more birthdays together.. you're a literal dream come true and I'm so grateful to call you mine," reads an Instagram post.
An intimate engagement
The Canadian artist popped the question with a pear-shape diamond solitaire engagement ring created by N.Y.C. luxury jewelry boutique Material Good. After, Lutes and Demi Lovato headed to Craig's, one of their favorite L.A. restaurants, to celebrate with their families.
"I definitely am in a really good place," Lovato told CBS Mornings earlier this year while promoting their new music. "I don't know what I'm going to write about on my next album because I'm so happy. It is a really good feeling. Definitely a bunch of sappy love songs — for sure."
