An elderly woman in Delhi was allegedly stabbed 20 times to her death by a man who had also sexually assaulted her on Monday. The victim, a 62-year-old woman from Begusarai in Bihar lived in Dallupura village with her son and grandson.
According to police, they received information about the victim from Dharamshila Hospital and proceeded to conduct an investigation. Deputy Commissioner of Police Priyanka Kashyap said, "The police reached the hospital and found that the throat of the victim had been slit with a sharp-edged weapon and there were multiple injuries marks on her stomach. “
NDTV reported that the woman was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Her body was later sent to Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital for post-mortem examination.
Officers at the New Ashok Nagar Police Station registered a case under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which constitutes murder, against the suspect, who remains unnamed.
During the investigation, authorities were able to acquire CCTV footage of the area from where the victim’s body was recovered. Police established the suspect’s identity, he was arrested and subjected to interrogation by the investigators.
According to India Today, the accused admitted to his crime stating that he was in an inebriated condition at the time of the incident. He confessed to slitting her throat and then stabbing her over 20 times. Police also said the motive behind the crime appears to be a case of sexual assault. The knife used to kill the victim has been recovered from the suspect.
Speaking with the authorities, the victim’s son said he had just come home after completing his duty hours as a security guard in Noida and upon entering the house, he saw his mother lying in a pool of blood.
His mother sold vegetables near their home. Prior to her gruesome murder she had taken her vegetable cart along with her grandson on Sunday and later returned home to cook food. This was the last time she was seen alive police said, without providing any further details about the case.
