Daytime Emmy Awards 2014 Nominations: ‘Despierta América’ Vs. ‘Un Nuevo Día’ And More!

The Daytime Emmy Awards nominations have been revealed and have included programming in Spanish in three different categories. "The growth of Spanish-language media over the last 50 years has been very closely followed by our organization," NATAS chairman Malachy Wienges said last year. "American television is changing at a rapid pace, driven by the growth of multicultural audiences who often speak more than one language. The Spanish-language media continues to grow exponentially each year, and NATAS believes it is long-overdue that we recognize its excellence in our industry." The categories that will be added to the roster will honor a morning program, entertainment program and daytime talent in Spanish.

Telemundo and Univision fight for the morning audience every day with their popular breakfast shows. "Despierta América" and "Un Nuevo Día" will not be competing in the Outstanding Morning Program In Spanish. The popular morning programs have been making changes with the Telemundo version constantly bringing talent that were made popular by Univision. In the Outstanding Entertainment Program In Spanish category the following are nominated: "Clix" (CNNE), "Destinos" (CNNE), "El Gordo y la Flaca" (Univision) and "Showbiz" (CNNE). In the Outstanding Daytime Talent In Spanish the following are nominated: Carlos Calderón ("El Gordo y la Flaca"), Alejandra Espinoza ("El Gordo y la Flaca"), Lili Estefan ("El Gordo y la Flaca"), Rodner Figueroa ("El Gordo y la Flaca") and Patricia Janiot ("Nuestro Mundo").

Univision leads the pack with 6 nominations followed by CNN En Español with 4 and mun2 and Telemundo with 1. The Telemundo cable net mun2 has a nomination in the category of Outstanding Special Class Special for their "Hecho En America" program. In the category of Outstanding Original Song - Main Title And Promo the "Opening Number Fusion" was nominated.
